IMPD arrest man wanted for New Jersey crimes

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) announced Friday the apprehension of an Indianapolis man who was wanted in a multi-state narcotics and money laundering investigation.

The VCU stated that James Matthews, 50, was arrested on March 5 at the 7700 block of North Michigan Road.

Police say that Matthews had a warrant out of New Jersey for first-degree possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree financial facilitation of criminal activity (money laundering) and fourth-degree posession of a controlled dangerous substance.

According to VCU, during Matthews arrest, detectives found $73,000 cash, a 1997 Dodge Ram truck and a Haulmark trailer. All of the confiscated items are in forfeiture proceedings.

Matthews was taken in custody to the Arrestee Processing Center and later extradited to New Jersey.
