Utility tripling size of solar park in northern Indiana

PERU, Ind. (AP) – The Indiana Municipal Power Association is planning to triple the size of a solar park project in the northern part of the state.

The Kokomo Tribune reports the company last year approved a $2.1 million park containing 3,900 solar panels and producing 1 megawatt of energy. The utility announced last month it would double the size of the project, increasing the investment to $3.6 million.

The Indiana Municipal Power Association said this month it will invest nearly $5.4 million to install 11,850 solar panels generating 3 megawatts of energy.

The utility’s senior vice president says it decided to triple the size of the project after hitting roadblocks for other solar parks in Indiana.

The utility provides wholesale electricity to 59 municipalities in Indiana.
