State files motion to halt IPL rate increase

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — In the wake of multiple explosions downtown the state has filed a motion to halt IPL’s pending rate increase case.

The Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor filed the motion to stay IPL’s request with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.

They’re asking that the commission’s investigation into last week’s explosions be completed before they move ahead with IPL’s request to increase customer rates.

“What has happened in the past week really is of paramount importance, not only to IPL’s rate payers to anyone else who ventures downtown Indianapolis and I think it is a matter of public interest,” said David Stippler Indiana Utility Consumer Counselor

IPL is asking to increase rates by more than $67 million a year. That would translate to about $8 more a month for a typical customer.

No word on how long the IURC’s investigation will take.
