Former deputy found not guilty of official misconduct, battery

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A former Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy was found not guilty after he was accused of slamming a suspect into a wall last March.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 29-year-old Aaron Rumphs. He’s accused of battering an arrestee at the APC, located in the 700 block of East Market Street.

On Wednesday a judge found Rumphs not guilty of one count of official misconduct and one count of battery.

Officials say the criminal investigation began on March 12, when the victim, an arrestee being processed at the APC, said that Rumphs battered him.

Rumphs had been a deputy since 2008. His only prior disciplinary issue involved a one day suspension in 2010 for a rule violation.
