Former Indy mayor fighting cancer, heart failure

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Former Indianapolis Mayor Bill Hudnut is fighting for his life.

The 82 year old told the Indianapolis Star Sunday that he has throat cancer and congestive heart failure. Hudnut said he is undergoing radiation treatment.

His doctors say is heart problems are advanced and irreversible. Hudnut told friends he is now on medical leave from Georgetown University.

He is the longest serving mayor in the history of Indianapolis serving from 1976 to 1992. Hudnut was honored in December with a bronze statue during the Colts half-time show. He is known as the mayor who brought the Colts to town.
