Train and van collide in Terre Haute on Monday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office asked local traffic to avoid the area where train and a car collided Monday.

Responding police say the accident occurred just before 8:30 a.m. at Ohio Street and South 9 1/2 Street, when a mini-van attempted to go past the crossing arms at an active railroad crossing.

According to police, the driver of the van only suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

Police worked to clean the area in the midst of investigations.
