Muncie mayor says city could approve resolution against RFRA

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – The mayor of the city of Muncie says he’s working on a resolution in opposition to Indiana’s new religious-objections law.

Mayor Dennis Tyler told The Star Press on Tuesday that he’s writing the resolution with members of the city council.

He says it could be adopted as early as the council’s regular meeting on Monday.

Tyler says making the city’s stance against the law clear is “the right thing to do.” He says the city doesn’t want to discourage anyone from moving to or working in Muncie.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has urged lawmakers to send a bill to his desk by the end of the week to clarify the intent of the law, which critics fear could allow discrimination against gays and lesbians.
