Four arrested after throwing rocks at traffic

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Police arrested three boys and a man after police say they threw softball sized rocks down on passing traffic.

It happened on Madison Avenue, just south of downtown Friday afternoon. Two cars were hit, according to police.

Ricky Shaner is one of those victims. He was driving home from work, when he saw the four with rocks in their hands.

“Was wondering whether they were going to throw the rocks that they had in their hand. The next thing I know, it was coming through the windshield,” said Shaner.

The rock didn’t actually go through the windshield, but it did hit it hard, cracking it so badly, that it spread. It cost around $300 to replace.

“All that glass came and hit me in the face. It was sticking in my hands, my face, in my hair,” said Shaner.

Without giving it a second thought, Ricky’s first reaction was to go after the four.

“I can’t believe they threw the rock. I slammed on the breaks, jumped out of the truck and ran up the hill,” said Shaner.

For the next hour, Ricky said he, along with police canvassed the neighborhood. He was about to give up when he spotted them.

“Thought I’d give it one try, walked out to the railroad tracks and they were headed to the park right here at the end of the street to play basketball,” said Shaner.

Police took the three juveniles and 20-year-old Jerald Moore into custody. The three boys range in age from 11 to 13. According to police, they have been released from juvenile detention.
