Hamilton County Humane Society wins Bracket for Good campaign

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — It wasn’t only Duke celebrating a huge win, the Humane Society for Hamilton County scored big time in the Brackets for Good campaign.

It was the no-kill animal shelter’s second time competing in the non-profit bracket challenge. Organizations that raised more money than their competitors in each round kept advancing, until it was Hamilton County’s humane society versus the Joseph Maley Foundation.

Executive Director, Rebecca Stevens says it was dollar for dollar until the last minute when a big donor stepped in to give the Humane Society the win.

“We screamed, everybody in the room went crazy. Everyone was cheering. It was about, what, six weeks long of really intense fundraising efforts and marketing, really creative marketing efforts,” said Stevens.

Just last week, two women were arrested for stealing a couple hundred dollars from the Humane Society’s donation box. The campaign brought in a whopping $135,000.
