Driver runs away after crashing into east side home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police are looking for the driver of a car who crashed into a home early Wednesday morning and then ran away.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. in the 11000 block of Sedlak Lane, that’s on the city’s far east side near 10th Street and German Church Road.

Police say the driver was probably coming around the corner too fast and lost control. He crashed into the home while a husband and wife were inside sleeping. The homeowner’s son told 24-Hour News 8 the car crashed into his daughter’s room, but she wasn’t there at the time.

Officers said after the crash, the man got out of the car, grabbed his license plate and ran away. Police said they’re looking for the driver, but they know who he is. The homeowner’s son also said there was a woman in the car with the driver, who stayed behind after the wreck.

Crews towed away the dark-colored El Camino. It had a cracked windshield and some damage to the bumper. It’s also not clear whether alcohol may have been a factor in this crash. At this time, officers are just saying the man lost control.
