Gun in bag prompts TSA reminder for travelers

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The discovery of a loaded gun in a piece of carry-on luggage prompted a reminder Thursday from the Transportation Security Administration.

TSA officials said an airline passenger had a loaded 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun in a carry-on bag Wednesday morning. Airport police cited the passenger, who wasn’t named.

The incident isn’t uncommon at Indianapolis International Airport. It’s the 11th time this year a gun was discovered at a security checkpoint.

TSA reminded airline passengers to put weapons in checked baggage only. Guns put in checked baggage must be in proper carrying cases, unloaded and declared to the airline.

Passengers who don’t follow TSA’s rules on weapons face local criminal charges and civil penalties from TSA.
