Pence calls off planned trip to NRA annual convention

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has called off a planned trip to speak at the National Rifle Association’s annual convention.

The governor’s office says Pence won’t attend the convention in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was among several potential Republican presidential candidates schedule to speak Friday.

A Pence spokeswoman says he’ll attend and speak at Friday’s funeral of a friend, Stephen Abernathy of Centerville.

Mills Funeral Home says Abernathy was the longtime senior pastor of Centerville Christian Church in eastern Indiana’s Wayne County and was a longtime police chaplain. He died Tuesday at the age of 65.
