Georgia murder suspect detained in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A man wanted in connection to a homicide investigation out of Georgia has been released to the custody of U.S. Marshals after being detained by Lafayette police Thursday night.

Police said they received a tip that Rashaad Jamal Cooke was at a residence in the 3800 block of Commons Court in Cambridge Estates. Around 10 p.m. Thursday, the city’s SWAT team assisted other LPD officers in taking Cooke into custody.

Cooke was wanted on a warrant for murder out of Atlanta.

Nearby Cambridge apartments were also evacuated as a precaution, but no one was hurt.

Cooke is being held as a federal prisoner in the Hammond, Indiana jail.
