Routine police call turns into a meth lab discovery

NEWTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A routine call for domestic disturbance turns into a meth lab discovery, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

According to 24-Hour News 8 partner station, WLFI, deputies responded to a home on E. State Road 55 in Fair Oaks, Ind., in regards to a domestic disturbance between Bryan and Denise Carter, both age 43. While investigating the verbal altercation, officers said they “observed in plain view drug paraphernalia commonly used in consumption and production of methamphetamine.”

After obtaining a search warrant, officers allegedly found numerous meth precursors and a partial inactive meth lab on the property. A field test confirmed positive results for meth, officials said. The Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Team was called in to assist.

Newton County Sheriff Tom VanFleet said he is proud of the officers for ridding Newton County of this meth lab.

“This is why police officers must remain proficient in all aspects of law enforcement training. They never know what they will come across when they respond to a routine call,” Sheriff VanFleet said in a news release.

Both Bryan and Denise Carter were arrested. They are being held in the Newton County Jail.
