Pacers’ Paul George appears in American Stroke Association PSA

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — May is American Stroke Month and the American Heart Association is teaming up with the American Stroke Association to raise awareness about the condition.

For one of the cities’ star athletes, this is something that hits close to home. Pacers superstar Paul George was just six-years-old when his mother, Paulette, suffered a stroke. It left her almost entirely bedridden for two years.

Now he’s taking part in a campaign to help others recognize the signs before it’s too late.

“She wasn’t talking. She could barely see. She couldn’t say anything to us. She was pretty much a vegetable. That was hard to see,” said George.

A PSA featuring George and his mother will begin airing nationwide in May.

The American Stroke Association hopes people will remember the acronym FAST when it comes to recognizing the signs of a stroke. Face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficultly and that it’s time to call 911.
