Castleton Square Mall hosts job fair ahead of busy summer months

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – If you’ll be looking for a summer job this year, experts say now is the time to start. Many employers aim to fill their positions by the end of May. Thursday evening, Castleton Square Mall will host a job fair with employers ready to interview applicants on site.

About 20 stores will be taking part in a job fair Thursday afternoon. Employers from Van Maur, Sears, Express, the Lego Store and many others will be setting up tables outside their store, ready to meet potential employees.

Organizers told 24-Hour News 8 the jobs will be mostly permanent positions.  Employers will be looking to fill part-time and full-time jobs ranging from stock room positions to sales.

The mall typically sees a lot of turnover in the summer as students’ schedules change. As the school year comes to a close, employers want to make sure they have their employees lined up for the busy summer months.

A new report shows national summer hiring looks promising this year. Snagajob found 78-percent of employers plan to hire the same amount or more employees as last year. That same study also showed employers around the country are paying more than $1 more per hour than last year’s average.

This comes as major retailers like Target, TJ Maxx and some McDonald’s restaurants, have decided to raise their minimum wage over the past few months. Castleson Square retailers were offering higher pay this year, but a spokesperson said it all varies store-to-store and will be dependent on experience and other factors.

This job fair will start at 4 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to dress professionally and bring resumes, because many employers will conduct interviews during the job fair.
