Hope town marshal to spend 2 weeks in jail

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) – A southern Indiana town marshal will spend two weeks in jail after a jury convicted him of felony misconduct and misdemeanor false informing.

Suspended Hope Marshal Donald R. “Randy” Bailey was sentenced Thursday to one and a half years in jail with 17 months suspended. The (Columbus) Republic reports he was ordered to serve 29 days, but state statutes allow him to receive two days’ credit for each day served, so he will only spend about 14 more days in the county jail.

Bailey was found guilty earlier this year in a case involving the wrongful arrest of a man on intimidation and criminal trespassing charges in May 2012.

Hope is about 40 miles south of Indianapolis.
