Pastors, residents and IMPD all gather to talk solutions

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) –Residents sat on chairs in a parking lot on the 3000 block of Sherman Drive. Those in the crowd gathered to listen to pastors and leaders with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Department of Police.

During the community meeting, Police Chief Rick Hite challenged the crowd to search for concrete solutions to issues troubling the community.

Shortly after the meeting started, word started to spread that a 17-year-old boy had been shot and killed on the 1900 hundred block of Adams Street.

Once on the scene, residents started to learn more about the shooting.

“The solution is Jesus Christ,” said a resident.

During the meeting, IMPD Commander Christopher Bailey wrote down other concerns from residents and told the people he will look into the issues.

After the meeting was over, residents appeared pleased by the discussion.

“I think that God got it. I’m going to turn it over to God so he can handle it,” said Brightwood Resident Reese Jackson.

Next Wednesday, local pastors will hold a prayer vigil on the 3000 block of Sherman Drive at the Emmanuel Baptist Outreach Center at 7 p.m.
