6 dogs rescued from abandoned Indianapolis home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Friends of Indianapolis Dogs Outside, with the help of Indianapolis Animal Care and Control and a Good Samaritan, rescued six dogs from an abandoned home this week, including one that had fallen into a well.

It all started when a man, identified as Christopher, called FIDO to report a female dog and her young pups were living nearby at an unoccupied house. Christopher had been trying to feed them, but the mother dog would not let him approach.

FIDO went to the home and trapped the four dogs in order to get them into a providing environment.

Christopher also said he’d heard a puppy crying from inside the house. FIDO volunteers discovered a dog had fallen down a six-foot well inside the home.

Indianapolis Animal Care and Control was called and used a “snappy snare” to rescue the puppy from the well. The dog was named “Timmy.”

Christopher believes the dog was in the well for almost a week.

All six animals will be taken to a foster home.
