Couple loses sleep over home invasion

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On Sunday evening, Guillermo and Susan Quintia, were resting up after coming back home from a long vacation.

The couple sat in their living room in the 5500 block of Whirlaway Circle watching television. Suddenly the couple heard a loud boom.

“I thought it was a firecracker,” said Susan.

As the couple continued to watch TV, that’s when they heard the noise again. This time, Susan got up to see where the noise may have been coming from. When she looked up she saw an intruder coming down her staircase.

The man didn’t see Susan, she then told her husband a man was in their home. Guillermo, hit the panic button on their security system, and the suspect ran away from the home.

Police arrived to the scene, and officers found a 25-year-old Zachuriah Rodenbeck hiding in a backyard. Police arrested Rodenbeck and charged him with burglary, vandalism, and criminal trespass.

During the investigation, police learned that another home reported a break-in. Detectives are trying to determine if Rodenbeck is connected to that crime.

The Quintias have to replace busted out windows, broken doors, and damaged furniture. Despite the damage, the Quintias were pleased to learn that Rodenbeck has been arrested for the crimes.

“Relieved, at least he won’t be able to do it again,” said Guillermo.

For the past 40 years, the Quintias have lived in their home. It’s where they’ve raised their children, the couple now hopes to raise awareness about crime prevention by telling others how to protect their home.
