BROWN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — More details emerged Monday in an ammonia spill that prompted the evacuation of some Brown County residents Saturday.

24-Hour News 8 news partner, the Brown County Democrat, reports 55-year-old Lloyd Wagler, of Morgantown, was in the 5300 block of Gatesville Road when his trailer began swaying. It broke from the truck and landed in a ditch. One witness said he believes Wagler speeding before the crash.

Multiple witnesses said an ammonia cloud came from the crashed trailer, causing people to run from the crash.

About 15 families were evacuated, and other families were told to stay indoors.

The road where the crash happened was closed from about 8 a.m. until midnight to clean up the spill. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
