GOP Rep. Brooks decides against US Senate campaign

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Another member of Indiana’s congressional delegation is taking a pass on running for the U.S. Senate seat that Republican Dan Coats is giving up.

Republican Rep. Susan Brooks announced Monday that she was humbled by the encouragement to enter the 2016 Senate campaign, but she decided she would continue her work in the U.S. House.

Brooks joins fellow GOP Rep. Jackie Walorski in deciding not to seek the Senate seat. Former state Republican Chairman Eric Holcomb so far is the only declared candidate since Coats announced his retirement decision last month.

Brooks is a former U.S. attorney for central and southern Indiana. She’s in her second term representing the 5th District, which runs from the north side of Indianapolis and its northern suburbs to the Marion area.
