Analysis shows meetings are costly, unorganized

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Most workplaces have them, but meetings may be costing businesses money.

Data pulled from professional and private studies has given new insight into meetings in American workplaces.

Based on average salaries, the average meeting attended by nine people costs at least $338 in wages. On average, there are 11 million meetings in the U.S. every day, meaning they cost about $220 million per month.

The people attending the meetings say a third of the time spent in them is unproductive. Workers also complain that meetings aren’t organized, with 63 percent of meetings starting without an agenda and with no decisions made.

The most common meeting time is 11 a.m., with most meetings lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, consistent with calendar application default settings.
