Mutt Strut organizers respond to dog flu concerns

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Organizers of a major Indianapolis event are addressing concerns over canine influenza in Indiana.

This week, organizers of Mutt Strut posted a statement online encouraging owners to bring healthy pets to Saturday’s event. Organizers say that they don’t think Mutt Strut poses a public safety threat.

Health officials say there are five confirmed cases of dog flu in Tippecanoe County. The virus has made more than 1,000 dogs sick in the Midwest and led to at least five dog deaths in Illinois.

Some central Indiana clinics are ordering and giving canine influenza vaccines.
