Water being restored at prison after main break

WESTVILLE, Ind. (AP) – A spokesman for a northern Indiana prison says water is being restored following a water main break.

Westville Correction Facility spokesman John Schrader tells WSBT-TV that water had been restored to six or seven of the prison’s 25 housing units by Monday afternoon.

Schrader says the investigation of a sinkhole on Thursday led to the discovery that a 12-inch water main had broken. He says crews needed to drain all water lines and a 500,000-gallon above ground storage tank to make repairs. Once repairs were made, water pressure had to be restored.

He says housing units are being brought online one at a time to make sure everything works properly.

Bottled water and National Guard water tanks were brought in for the 3,000 inmates, as were portable toilets.
