IMPD holds ‘community conversation’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — In hopes of cutting down on crime, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is trying to keep the conversation going.

Wednesday evening, IMPD’s northwest district held a “community conversation” at Pilgrim Baptist Church.

There were no presentations, speeches or slide shows.

The goal was to talk.

“They don’t want to hear a speech. They want to ask a question. They don’t have to stay the whole time. Once they ask a question, they’re free to leave or they’re more than welcome to stay,” said IMPD sergeant Matthew Grimes.

Officers say the conversation ranged from crime to community complaints to how neighbors can get involved.

IMPD is holding these Community Conversations every several months.
