Sam’s Club worker accused of stealing credit card information

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Sam’s Club employee is under investigation after being accused of swiping customer credit card information for personal gain.

According to the police report, the worker started taking customer credit card information in January from the store on 96th St. It was estimated the suspect took $11,386 from nine customers.

Another employee witnessed the crime and informed the management. Surveillance video caught the worker on tape and management later got a tape confession from the suspect.

Many customers had no knowledge as to what happened at store.

“I’m tired of hearing about the identity theft issues. It is ridiculous,” said a customer as she placed items in her car.

There were other customers that did not seem surprised when they heard about the details of the crime.

Sam’s Club released the following statement:

The safety and security of our members is our top priority. We set high expectations for our associates and this clearly doesn’t paint an accurate description of the hard working associates with integrity we have on our team. While this appears to be a very isolated situation, we take matters like this very seriously.  We are committed to working with law enforcement to provide any information we have that might be useful for the investigation.”

Sam’s Club has not released how the store will address the credit concerns of the victims. Police have not stated why the suspect has not been arrested.
