Victim identified in Greensburg death investigation

GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of man found dead inside his home Tuesday night.

49-year-old John Boyce was shot multiple times, according to Greensburg Police Chief Brendan Bridges.

“We are waiting for the autopsy results to reveal more information and clues,” said Bridges.

Neighbors says they heard and argument take place, followed by a round of gunshots that went off.

Marwin Chauncy heard the chatter going on just feet away from her front door. She’s lived in this neighborhood for 30 years and knew the victim most of that time.

“This is shocking to me. I thought this would kind of stuff happened in other cities, not here in Greensburg,” said Chauncy. “He was a good neighbor and friend to me. When my husband would go out of town, he trimmed the yard. I can’t believe I won’t see him again.”

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office said they brought the victim’s brother in for questioning, but he is not considered a suspect at this time.

A person of interest has not been named.
