4 IMPD officers save 8 people from burning home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) had four police officers rescue eight people from a burning home on Thursday.

Officers Shawn Cook and Matthew Fortney were on patrol when they noticed that smoke was coming from a home on the city’s west side and Cook notified dispatch of the fire.

Officer Adam Mengerink was working part time across the street, when he heard the officers’ radio traffic and immediately went to offer assistance to the officers.

Canine Officer Michael Douglass was in the area and also came to the scene to assist.

All four officers entered the burning home and rescued the eight occupants.
