Boy writes George Lucas, asks to have Jedi rule changed

CALIFORNIA (CNN) – A California boy who’s a big “Star Wars” fan wants to be a Jedi knight. He says he also wants to get married.

But, according to Jedi lore, that can’t happen. So 7-year-old Colin Gilpatric wrote a letter about it to Star Wars creator George Lucas.

“Dear George Lucas – I don’t like that a Jedi cannot get married. I want to get married without becoming a Sith. Please change the rule,” the letter read.

Colin wrote Lucas a few weeks ago and Lucas wrote back. He sent Colin some comic books, a picture and his response, which says in part, “you are showing great wisdom by asking your question. To be a Jedi is to truly know the value of friendship, of compassion, and loyalty. And these values are important in marriage.”

After Colin’s mom read the letter out loud, Colin said, “I can get married? No way!”

His mother says Colin got in a little bit of trouble at school after he received his letter. She says he kept asking girls in his class to marry him.
