Camden teen dies in Carroll County crash

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Camden, Ind. teen is dead and investigators are trying to determine why the 19-year-old driver crashed into a semitrailer late morning Thursday.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 29 and State Road 18 East, located northeast of Flora.

Investigators from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, with help from Indiana State Police, said a loaded semitrailer, driven by 49-year-old George Bonestell, of Oklahoma, was heading north of State Road 29. As Bonestell was crossing through the SR 18 intersection, an SUV driven by 19-year-old Jeramey Mossholder, of Camden, Ind., struck the side of trailer.

Mossholder was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County Coroner JD Cree. Bonestell was taken to St. Vincent-St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo with unknown injuries.

Mossholder’s vehicle has three passengers – 21-year-old Chase Smith, of Logansport, Ind., 21-year-old Tyler Breedlove and 19-year-old Brittany Hughes, both of Peru, Ind. Two were airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and one was taken St. Vincent-St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo. Sheriff’s deputies were unclear as to who went to which hospital at this time.

Passengers in the vehicle have been identified, but investigators are still trying to determine their positions in the SUV and if they were wearing seat belts.

Police do not know if drugs or alcohol were factors at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
