Former ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ child actor commits suicide

(MEDIA GENERAL) – Former child actor Sawyer Sweeten, known for his longtime role as Geoffrey Barone on the family sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” committed suicide early Thursday, according to his family.

He was 19.

“This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred,” Madylin Sweeten said in a statement. Madylin played Ally Barone, Geoffrey’s older sister on the show.

“We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”

The Hollywood Reporter has reported Sweeten was visiting family in Texas where it is believed he fatally shot himself.

Sawyer Sweeten and his twin brother, Sullivan, played twin brothers on “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which ran from September 1996 through May 2005.

According to IMDb.com, he did not take any other acting roles after “Everybody Loves Raymond” finished its run.
