Herd of buffalo on the move in eastern New York

SELKIRK, N.Y. (NEWS10/AP) – A herd of buffalo were making their way through Bethlehem New York, near Albany.

Officials confirm the herd was in the area of River Road and Maple Avenue, and they were on the move.

About 15 of the animals got loose Thursday from a farm in the Rensselaer County town of Schodack, on the river’s east bank.

The owner believes they swam across the river to the town of Bethlehem, where they wandered Friday morning in an area between Interstate 87 and the river’s west bank.

The herd crossed a local road at about 11:15 a.m. and ambled onto the Thruway near Exit 21A, 10 miles south of Albany. The animals safely crossed the northbound lanes and then trotted south on the shoulder into some woods.
