Maryland officer helps deliver baby after traffic stop

MARYLAND (CNN) — An officer in Maryland is being honored for helping a mother deliver her baby, on the side of the road.

On Thursday, Officer Dan Campbell pulled over a speeding car. The diver told Campbell that his wife was in labor.

The officer offered to escort the couple to the hospital, but the baby had other plans. Campbell said he put on his latex gloves and grabbed the first aid kit to help deliver the baby.

“They do train us to deliver babies in the academy. It’s one of those this could happen. And we hear the stories. And I was like wow, this is really happening right now,” said Campbell.

The mother and baby were both doing well.
