WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — Nicole Gruszka had just moved to a different part of Westfield Washington High School’s stage when it happened.
“I had stepped off onto the wooden stairs that are directly off of the orchestra pit — which is what fell — and a second after I stepped on, I just heard screaming,” Gruszka recalls. “I turned around and I saw that there was nothing behind me anymore. Everyone was just in the floor. I just froze. It didn’t feel like I should have been able to stand there when everyone else was in the floor.”
Gruszka spoke with 24-Hour News 8’s Scott Sander Friday morning about the Westfield stage collapse. Click play in the video box for her interview.
