Nationwide pet adoption tour stops in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Animal Care and Control teamed up with the North Shore Animal League of New York to offer pet lovers a unique opportunity on Sunday.

The American Legion Mall was a stop for the 2015 nationwide ‘Tour for Life.’ The event offered people the chance to adopt not only dogs or cats, but all sorts of other animals including rabbits, snakes, and even tortoises.

“The wonderful thing about adoption is that if you’re looking for a pet, there is a rescue group for that pet,” said Dawn Contos, spokesperson for IACC. “There is somebody who specializes in whatever you might be looking for and you can find it through a rescue.”

Contos said IACC works with hundreds of rescue groups across the country and can help people find the right rescue that matches what they’re looking for.

“We’re very big on adoption, because we have such a pet overpopulation problem and there’s no point in breeding more pets when we have so many available for adoption,” she said.
