I-70 crash turns fatal, police looking for white cargo truck

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – One person died in a crash on I-70 Monday.

The crash happened just before 6 Monday evening near the 22 mile marker in Clay County, near the Brazil onramp.

The male driver of a Toyota Tundra was ejected, and trapped under his truck. Emergency crews took him to St. Vincent-Clay Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police identified him Tuesday morning as 49-year-old David Brett Lindsey.

The investigation found Lindsey’s truck appeared to have suddenly veered onto the shoulder, and then back across the westbound lanes, rolling multiple times. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Police are investigating the possibility that the pickup truck made contact with a white cargo truck before the crash.

According to witnesses, the cargo truck and the pickup truck were driving erratically before the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
