Police looking for clues in who killed 82-year old man

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Neighbors described Robert Woods as a thoughtful and kind man. The 82-year old lived at the Crestwood Village East Apartments.

The senior living apartments sit near 16th Street and Shadeland Avenue. On Friday night, police received reports of gunshots in the area. When officers arrived they didn’t spot anything suspicious.

On Saturday morning relatives discovered Woods’ body in his apartment.

Police have little clues on who pulled the trigger; however, after pouring over two hours of surveillance video, investigators released video of an SUV pulling away from the scene. Detectives would like to talk to the person behind that wheel.

Investigators believe that Woods may have been targeted. Homicide detectives have been speaking with neighbors and processing the crime scene for evidence.

In a strange twist, Woods’ son, Robert Woods’ Jr. was arrested for murder in a separate case on April 18. According to police, a swat team arrested Woods Jr., on the morning of April 18, in the 1400 block of Orange Street. Police labeled the 22-year-old as a person of interest in the murder of a 17-year-old teenager.

Police have not said if there is a connection in the two cases.

Workers at Crestwood Village are planning to hold a meeting with residents and police to discuss this case. Some residents remain in disbelief by what happened to Robert Woods Sr.

“That is so sick, whoever did that is the sickest person I can think of right now,” said resident Pat Lyng.
