Former surgeon, once charged with attempted murder, now a fugitive

PERU, Ind. (WISH) — A man who was once charged in a plot to kill his ex-wife is now a fugitive after removing his tracking device and fleeing in-home detention.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Gregory Konrath fled Tuesday, two weeks after being placed on in-home detention.

MCSO said Konrath forcibly removed his tracking device and it is believe he fled in a 2013 Chevrolet Captiva with Indiana license plate WJE 795.

Konrath, a former surgeon in Lafayette, was charged in a “bizarre” 2014 attempted murder case.

Konrath was arrested and charged in the plot back in mid-2014.

Konrath bonded out of jail and was not allowed to contact his wife Joannah or his ex-wife, Ana. A week later, he was back behind bars for trying to contact both women and was charged with two counts of stalking. Investigators also found passport and ID photos and were concerned he was going to flee to Mexico.

In December, attempted murder charges were dropped and Konrath pleaded guilty to stalking.

It was “probably the most bizarre case I have ever been involved in,” said Miami County Prosecutor Bruce Embrey.

Anyone with information regarding Konrath’s whereabouts is urged to contact their nearest law enforcement agency or call the Miami County Sheriff’s Office at 765-473-5474.
