Bud Light slogan mishap generates social media backlash

INDIANAPOLIS (MEDIA GENERAL) – Anheuser-Busch has apologized after a new slogan, part of the company’s #UpForWhatever Bud Light campaign, gained harsh criticism after spreading across social media this week.

The slogan reads: “The perfect beer for removing ‘no’ from your vocabulary for the night.”

The photo first was posted on Reddit Monday night, but soon spread across social media where many decried the slogan for promoting rape culture.

“The Bud Light Up For Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way,” Alexander Lambrecht, vice president of Bud Light, said in a news release. “In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage spontaneous fun. It’s clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it.”

Many Twitter users used the #UpForWhatever hashtag to criticize Bud Light for the slogan.
