IMPD officer comes to pizza delivery drivers rescue

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer went above and beyond to help a pizza delivery driver.

IMPD Officer Brittany Waltz pulled over to help Bret Grubbs change a tire. Waltz spotted Grubbs along Kentucky Avenue stranded; however, there was a problem fixing the tire, because the lug nuts were on to tight.

Grubbs told the officer he was on his way to deliver a pizza. Officer Waltz decided to drive Grubbs to his delivery location a few blocks away.

“People don’t realize that we do stuff like this everyday. I’m certainly not the first or the last officer to stop to help someone in a traffic situation like this,” said Waltz.

Customers appeared surprised when they saw Grubbs get out of a squad car with pizzas. Despite the customer shock, Grubbs was pleased that Waltz was willing to help.

“I was grateful for that, I was stressed out and everything. I did not expect it,” said Grubbs.

Later that night, Grubbs’ supervisor found a way to remove the stubborn lug nuts and change the tire.

We are learning that Grubbs told Waltz that his father is in the Army and his grandfather served in the Marines. He hopes that some day he will become a police officer to help others.
