INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — One person died and two people were hurt in a crash on the south side of Indianapolis Thursday morning.

It happened at West Southport Road and State Road 37 just after 11 a.m. According to officials at the scene, there were two vehicles involved in the crash — a red car and a white van. They say the red car was heading southbound on SR 37 when it turned in front of the white van, which was traveling northbound on SR 37.

The driver of the red car was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition. The passenger died at the scene.

Emergency officials said a man inside the van was transported to the hospital in good condition.

Eastbound traffic on Southport Rd. was blocked at SR 37. Police were directing traffic around the crash and back onto northbound SR 37.
