Indy Eleven respond after failed stadium bid

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indy Eleven suffered it’s first loss of the season last night but it wasn’t on the field. It was at the statehouse.

The team’s hope for government help in building a new stadium ended when the session did.

The house and senate passed two different versions of a bill that would have allowed the team to use taxes generated at a new or remodeled stadium and a downtown hotel to help pay for the facility.

In an exclusive interview today with 24-Hour News 8, Indy Eleven President Peter Wilt said time just ran out for a compromise.

“We need to reassess. We need to see where we are and what the opportunities are going forward,” Wilt said. “You know, as we have been all along, we’re open minded to the process and we’re certainly looking at returning to the state next year and trying again.”

The next legislative session is not a budget year, which could make it tougher to get done.
