IKEA expands crib mattress recall

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IKEA has expanded a recall regarding a brand of crib mattresses because they pose a hazard to infants.

The company is recalling VYSSA and SULTAN crib mattresses because the item could create a gap between the mattress and crib ends larger than allowed by federal regulations, posing an entrapment hazard to infants.

The expansion includes about 131,000 SULTAN crib mattresses sold in the U.S. and about 44,000 sold in Canada.

The involved mattresses were manufactured on May 4, 2014 or earlier. They were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online from Aug. 2010 to May 2014 for about $100.

There have been two reports of infants becoming entrapped between the mattress and an end of the crib. The children were removed from the gap and were not hurt.

If you have one of these mattresses, you should inspect it by making sure there is no gap larger than the width of two fingers between the ends of the crib and the mattress. If any gap is larger, customers should immediately stop using the mattress and return it to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund.
