PTO treasurer facing additional forgery and theft charges

FORTVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – The treasurer of the Fortville Elementary PTO has been arrested on allegations that she stole $6,700 from the PTO account.

Marcy Smitley, 39, McCordsville, was arrested for 14 counts of forgery and one count of theft.

The PTO conducted an audit of their accounts after learning that Smitely had been arrested in Marion County for forgery and theft in March.

In that case, she was charged with 20 counts of forgery and one count of theft of at least $100,000, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Greenfield Daily Reporter reports.

Smitely was hired to supervise the Winslow Crossing apartment and condo complex in Indianapolis.

Court documents stated that Smitley wrote and cashed checks without the permission or knowledge of Winslow Crossing Homeowners Association.

Over four years, she took more than $120,000. She will stand trial for that case on July 8.

She was booked into the Hancock County Jail on Friday.
