Death of eastern Indiana man while camping ruled accidental

ALBANY, Ind. (AP) – An eastern Indiana coroner has ruled the death of a 25-year-old man during an early March camping trip an accident.

Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn tells The Star Press the cause of death for Benjamin Anderson of Albany, 12 miles northeast of Muncie, was exposure to the elements. He says toxicology tests revealed no evidence Anderson had ingested anything that would have caused his death.

Authorities say Anderson went camping along the Mississinewa (mis-ih-SIHN’-uh-wah) River near Albany on March 6, when temperatures dropped to near zero. He was reported missing a week later.

His remains were found March 23 when the Mississinewa River receded after heavy rains and melting snow caused flooding.
