Juvenile reported as a runaway airlifted after accident in Clay County

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – A juvenile male reported as a runaway from Terre Haute was airlifted after an accident in Clay County on Sunday.

The first call for the accident was at 3:17 p.m. at 3886 West County Road 950 North. When the Clay County Deputy arrived at the scene, the vehicle was on fire but the driver had been pulled from the vehicle.

A neighbor told police he had heard the crash and was able to pull the driver out of the vehicle before it caught on fire.

Officials believe the driver was going at a high rate of speed on a gravel road and lost control. The vehicle then fishtailed, left the road and struck a tree on the south side of the road.

The driver, who was a juvenile male reported as a runaway from Terre Haute, was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life threatening injuries.
