Indiana lawmakers could meet in June for technical session

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana lawmakers could return to the Statehouse next month to correct errors in new statutes or override a veto by the governor.

The House and Senate set June 8 as the technical session meeting date before adjourning last week for the 2015 legislative session.

It costs about $30,000 for the 150-member General Assembly to meet for one day. Chamber leaders must determine if the cost and inconvenience of meeting in June will be necessary this year.

The Republican-controlled Legislature has met for a technical session every year that Republican Gov. Mike Pence has been in office.

Lawmakers overrode his veto of a retroactive local tax increase in 2013 and made fixes to a major criminal code overhaul in 2014.
