Three mayoral incumbents lose in primary upset

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – While the primary elections for the mayoral race in the city of Indianapolis went exactly as expected on Tuesday, other cities experienced incumbent upsets.

The Martinsville, Columbus and Lebanon mayoral primary races showed that some Indiana communities could be ready for change.

  • Martinsville: Republican Mayor Shannon Buskirk was defeated by City County Council member, Shannon Kohl.
  • Columbus: Republican Mayor Kristen Brown was defeated by City County Council member, James Lienhoop.
  • Lebanon: Republican Mayor Harold Lewis was defeated by Matt Gentry.
