Woman accused of burning father seeks plea deal

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) – A Centerville woman has filed court paperwork saying she will plead guilty but mentally ill to burning her father to death in 2011.

If a judge accepts the plea agreement, Nina M. Holbrook will be sentenced to 55 years in prison for murder and 50 years for arson in the death of Carl D. Holbrook. Authorities say Nina Holbrook poured fuel on her father and set him on fire with a candle.

A friend of Carl Holbrook found him badly burned on July 8, 2011. He was airlifted to a hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where he later died.

Court documents say Nina Holbrook told investigators that she intended to kill her father.

The (Richmond) Palladium-Item reports she was committed to a psychiatric hospital for about three years following her arrest.
